B'more Careful

Sorry for the lapse, folks. I've been super-busy with...CAMP. Bug juice, dodgeball, "murphys" (the inexplicable camp name for a bathroom/lavatory/loo/w.c.), etc. You know...this is the sort of experience I never would have appreciated as a child. Now, I'm the one shouting loudest for another round of "Three Short-necked Buzzards".

And - I hate to toot my own horn here- but last week I won the Camp Counselor of the Week award.

It's a major award.

Seriously. The certificate is printed in color. I'm hanging it on the fridge.

  • Ahhh, I remember being a camp counselor while I was in highschool! It was the BEST! We used to play this game called killer soccer. We only played after a substantial amount of rainfall so that the playing field was soggy and/or flooded. It was normally counselors vs campers+counselors in training (CITs). Anyway, having gone to camp there for years it was a big deal to finally get on the counselor's team and take out my frustrations on the campers.

It was kind of a cross between rugby and soccer. The campers could pick up the ball and run with it, but the counselors could only pick up the ball and run 3 steps before the had to kick it to someone else. You could tackle anyone with the ball and you could hipcheck anyone else. No cross checks or clotheslines. Slide tackles were encouraged :)

Of course, you can't play games like this anymore because parents are a whole lot more sensitive when their children come back from camp with less teeth. Still, it was great fun.

    Ahh, to be young again.

  • ps- you know that bug juice isn't really made out of bugs, right?

  • Actually, we can (and do) play games like those. We just have to call them by different names. For example, we're not allowed to play "dodgeball." So we play "evasive manuveurs."
