Petard Review of Books

Here are the best books I read in '07, and some that now prop up furniture and/or line Mr. Darcy's bunny cage.

The Best:

subtitled: Books my Readership Might Read or Have Lent Me

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet - do not let this book inspire you to read his other "works." Whiteout was fun, but definitely airplane reading.

Middlesex by Greek Name Eugenics (or something like that) - it's about hermaphradites. nuff said.

What Was She Thinking: Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller - much better than the movie. you can read it in one bite.

The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan the Barbarian - truly creative use of phospherecent paint

In Cold Blood by Truman Compote - rambly, but great characterization. which is a weird reason for me to like a book.

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larsen - just the parts about the serial killer. skip every other chapter to avoid deadly boredom

subtitled: sleazy romance
The Leopard Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt - you know I love my tolerably written sleazy romance novels. this is probably the best of '07.

subtitled: young adult lit
Shade's Children by Garth Nix

The Bottom of the Bunny Cage:

The Yiddish Policeman's Union - i spent $30 on a hardcover copy of BO-RING.

Life of Pi - my grandfather gave it back to me unread, and now it holds up a shelf in my closet

Captured by Helen Kirkman - horrifically bad romance novel which i had to pay $11 for because, as you recall, bunny ate it

The Devil in the White City - chapters about the Chicago World's Fair: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Please add your thoughts!
